Torfrock

The rock band Torfrock are a band from northern Germany whose musical identity and personas are strongly linked with the area's Saxon roots. Their name literally translates as 'peat rock' and is a nod to the Iron Age origins of the region's population. The band was founded by vocalist Klaus Büchner and guitarist Raymond Voß in 1976 with their debut album 'Dat Matscht So Schön' being released the following year. The band perform a variety of American and British standards with the lyrical content re-written in Low German which is the ancient language of the region. The band have become an iconic trademark of contemporary culture in Northern Germany and have an enthusiastic fan base who are appreciative of the band's efforts in keeping alive the cultural heritage of the area. Torfrock are closely associate with the popular 'Werner' comic franchise created by comic book artist Rötger Feldmann. The band wrote the soundtrack for the first 'Werner' film and Raymond Voß is the voice of one of the film's characters.
