He was born in 1972 into a musical family; his grandfather (and namesake) was a film music composer and his father is the well known conductor Michail Jurowski. Jurowski studied music at the Moscow Conservatory until the age of 18 when his family relocated to Germany and the teenager was sent to the Dresden Conservatory before choosing to continue his studies at the Horschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin. His principal tutor was Professor Rolf Reuter. Jurowski made his first international appearance in 1995 conducting the opera 'May Night' at Ireland's Wexford Festival and a year later made his debut at Covent Garden conducting 'Nabucco'. He went on to distinguish himself as the music director of the Glyndebourne Festival Opera, a post he held for eleven years. Jurowski has enjoyed a successful recording career with more than 30 albums to his credit and his interpretations of the works of Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich are held in high regard.
