Yuya Tegoshi

Yuya Tegoshi (November 11, 1987) is a Japanese singer who first jumped to fame as a member of the boy band NEWS. He has also enjoyed great popularity as an actor, starring in the dramas My Boss My Hero (2006), Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge (2010), and Deka Wanko (2011). Hailing from the city of Yokohama, Yuya Tegoshi joined the entertainment company Johnny & Associates as a trainee in 2002 and made his debut with NEWS in 2003 with the chart-topping single “News Nippon.” NEWS rapidly achieved mainstream success in Japan, delivering a slew of albums and singles that topped the Oricon charts and made them stars in the process. During the group’s hiatus in 2006, Yuya Tegoshi and bandmate Takahisa Masuda formed the duo Tegomass, whose debut single “Miso Soup” went to number 1 on the Japanese charts. After terminating his contract with Johnny & Associates in June 2020, Yuya Tegoshi kicked off his solo career with the release of the single “Cinnamon,” which reached number 100 on Billboard Japan’s Top 100. His solo studio debut, New Frontier, came out in 2021 and peaked at number 8 on the Oricon Albums Chart. He followed this success with the EP Music Connect, another Top 10 entry released in 2022 via For Life Music Entertainment. Later that year, he celebrated his 20th anniversary as a performer with a secret live show in Tokyo. 2023 saw the release of his sophomore effort Checkmate as well as his first-ever symphonic concert, held at Tokyo's Opera City Concert Hall. In January 2024, Yuya Tegoshi returned with the extended play Kizuna (絆), which climbed to number 8 on the Japanese charts.
