Review

Nearly ten years after their debut record, with hefty success behind them, Universal Music Latino decided it was time to immortalize the teen pop group Kabah with their very first compilation. Very few sugar-pop dance groups ever make it to the level at which their material is released in collection format, marking the beginning of Kabah's journey into the halls of disco/house ever after. Generacion Rebelde actually bears a striking likeness to RBD's Rebelde in packaging style, the transformation of the title into easy-to-remember initials (GR) and, of course, title choice. Perhaps their artistic choices are meant to send a message to the youthful pop icons: "We were the original shout-in-unison-over-low-budget-tracks sextet!" The material does remind listeners of just how vivacious and fun-loving Kabah's music is, and how long they've been at it. The material on Generacion Rebelde is consistently infectious and spirited. All the club favorites that one might expect are present, including "La Calle de las Sirenas," "Amor de Estudiante," and "Estare." Even if Kabah chooses not to grace their worldwide listening audience with a fresh disc, Generacion Rebelde will always be there to remind you of the good times. ~ Evan C. Gutierrez
