Review

Upon leaving the studio, after wrapping up the final touches to his debut album, Tracy Lawrence was shot by attackers on a Nashville street. Ironically, the incident set him apart from the countless other good-looking, Stetson-crowned musicians who were vying for the press's attention at the time. Three albums into a short, but very succesful career, I SEE IT NOW, brings Lawrence to a fiddle and steel-soaked traditional high-point. Replete with those cute lyrical twists for which country music is famous, "I've got a feelin' she ain't feelin' what I'm feelin' anymore" and "I'm goin' on a guilt trip draggin' all the baggage she left behind," I SEE IT NOW is Lawrence at his straight-ahead traditional best. John Anderson joins Tracy for a raucous, redneck rave-up, "Hillbilly With A Heartache." They share vocals and vocal styles, and their indistinguishable parts are even more remarkable because Anderson has such a distinctive style. Another highlight is the country-waltz title track with its uniquely melodic chorus. Nowadays, the bullet Tracy Lawrence is taking is the one driving I SEE IT NOW up the charts.
