Akihito Okano

Best known as the vocalist of the chart-topping Japanese band Porno Graffitti, Akihito Okano is a rock vocalist from Onomichi, Hiroshima. He was born on October 15, 1974, and developed an appreciation for western music as a child. Although his first band, No Score, broke up shortly after its teenaged members graduated from high school, the bandmates reformed in 1994 under a different name: Porno Graffitti. Romantist Egoist, the band's 2000 debut, peaked at number 4, and the group enjoyed commercial success with records like 2004's Porno Graffitti Best Blues, 2005's Thumpx, 2008's Porno Graffitti Best Ace, 2010's Trigger, 2013's Porno Graffitti 15th Anniversary "All Time Singles", and 2015's Rhinoceros, all six of which climbed to Number 1 on Japan's Oricon Albums chart. Porno Graffitti also hit Number 1 with six singles, establishing Okano as one of the most prominent voices in contemporary Japanese rock music. Meanwhile, he also collaborated with other Japanese and Taiwanese artists, appearing on Mayday's "Song for You" in 2017, Hiroyuki Sawano's "Everchild" in 2019, and Shikao Suga's "To You" in 2020. He released first solo album, Walkin' With a Song, in 2023, reaching number 5 on Japan's Top 100 Albums chart and earning a Top 40 hit with the single "MELODY," which charted at number 36.
