Andrés Orozco-Estrada

Andrés Orozco-Estrada is a Colombian conductor who has won acclaim as music director of the Houston Symphony Orchestra in Texas since he succeeded long-time director Hans Graf in 2014. Now also principal guest conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, he spent several years as music director of the Tonkünstler Orchester at the Vienna Musikverein. He learned to play the violin as a child and studied at the Instituto Musical Diego Echavarría and the Pontifical Xavierian University in Bogota before moving to Austria where he took further study at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. He garnered attention when he debuted as a conductor with the Tonkünstler Orchestra in 2004 and went on to conduct the Orquesta Sinfónica de Euskadi in San Sebastián, Spain and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra. He made his debut with the London Philharmonic in 2013 and having debuted with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra in 2006, in March 2018 it was announced that he would be chief conductor for five years from the 2020-21 season. His recordings with the Tonkünstler Orchester include 'Mahler: Symphony No.1' (2010), 'Mendelssohn Bartholdy: Lobgesang' (2011), 'Zeitpunkte' (2012) and 'Mendelssohn Bartholdy: Symphonies Nos. 1 & 3' (2014). With the Houston Symphony, his albums include 'Antonín Dvorák: Symphony No. 7; Symphony No. 8' (2016), 'Antonín Dvorák: Symphony No. 9 'From the New World'; 2 Slavonic Dances' (2017), 'Music of the Americas' (2018) and 'Haydn: The Creation' (2018). His 2018 schedule included performances conducting the Frankfurt Symphony Orchestra at several venues in Japan with a performance in August with the London Philharmonic at the BBC Proms followed by a return to Texas for performances with the Houston Symphony.
