Baz Luhrmann

Baz Luhrmann is Australia's most successful film director. Born in Sydney on September 17, 1962, his stylish, larger-than-life cinematography helped movies like Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge!, and The Great Gatsby become box office hits in multiple countries. The Grammy-nominated soundtracks for Moulin Rouge! and The Great Gatsby were both produced by Luhrmann, and many of the songs from his earlier films were remixed for the director's studio album, Something for Everybody. Released by EMI in 1998, the record included "Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)," which combined a fake commencement speech written by newspaper columnist Mary Schmich with a sample of Rozalla's dance-pop hit, "Everybody's Free (To Feel Good)." The song became a novelty hit across the world, topping the UK Singles Chart and earning heavy airplay in America throughout 1999.
