Bebeto

Roberto Tadeu de Souza (September 7, 1947) is a Brazilian singer-songwriter who goes by the stage name of Bebeto, commonly known for scoring a couple of samba-rock hits in the 70s. A São Paulo native, de Souza got his start by playing at small venues and bars around the city and then made his official recording debut with an eponymous full-length in 1975. After relocating to Rio de Janeiro, he had his big breakthrough moment with the LP Esperanças mil (1977), which spawned the singles “Você é a paz que me acalma” and “Água, água.” De Souza followed up with Cheio de razão (1978), an album heavily influenced by soul and disco that was embraced by clubgoers throughout Brazil. During the 80s, the artist kept releasing music at a prolific rate with the LPs Batalha Maravilhosa (1981), Massagem (1981), Guerreiro (1982), and Simplesmente Bebeto (1983), which went on to become one of his best-selling albums thanks to the hit singles “Aos trancos e barrancos” and “Hello, Mona Lisa.” Even though his output waned considerably during the 90s and 2000s, de Souza made a comeback towards the end of the decade with the albums Suinga Bebeto Brasil (2009) and Prazer, Eu Sou Bebeto (2010). Five years later, he released the live CD/DVD Pra Balançar (2015), which featured appearances by Zélia Duncan, Zeca Baleiro, and Seu Jorge.
