Benjamin Bernheim

Franco-Swiss tenor Benjamin Bernheim was born in Paris, France on June 9, 1985. The adopted son of baritone Antoine Bernheim and grandson of mezzo-soprano Nicole Buloze, Benjamin Bernheim grew up in Geneva, Switzerland and took piano and violin lessons before changing course at the age of 10 when he began to study singing. A student of the HEM Lausanne Conservatory in Switzerland, he won the Leenards Foundation scholarship in 2008 and was accepted into the Opera Studio of the Opernhaus Zürich during their 2008/2009 season. His career developed rapidly with a repertoire that focused on French and Italian composers. Benjamin Bernheim starred in the world premiere of Marc-André Dalbavie’s opera Gesualdo and also performed at the Salzburg Festival in Mozart’s Il re pastore in 2012, then in numerous roles on opera stages throughout Europe. Some of his other notable roles include starring turns in Verdi’s Otello and La Traviata, Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Puccini’s La Bohème and Manon Lescaut, Massenet’s Thaïs, Gounod’s Faust, and Tchaikovsky’s Eugène Onéguine. His appearances at the Berlin Opera, the Vienna Staatsoper, the Royal Opera House in London, the Paris Opera, the Scala in Milan, the Munich Opera and the Chicago Opera led to a recording contract in 2018 with the Deutsche Grammophon label. His award-winning 2019 self-titled debut album was recorded with conductor Emmanuel Villaume. Raised to the rank of Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters (2021), Benjamin Bernheim released the album Boulevard des Italiens in 2022, which was recorded with the Orchestra Del Teatro Comunale Di Bologna conducted by Frédéric Chaslin.
