BRAHMAN

Formed in Tokyo, Japan in 1995, Brahman is an alternative rock band that combines hardcore punk with traditional Japanese folk music. The group came together when vocalist Toshi-Low and guitarist Daisuke’s previous band had split up and they joined forces with bassist Makoto and drummer Ronzi, both of whom had also come from another local band who had just called it quits. The group released their debut mini album, Grope Our Way, in 1996 before Daisuke left the group, who recorded their next mini album, Wait and Wait (1997), as a trio. Brahman became a quartet again with the arrival of new guitarist Kohki just before they recorded their debut album, A Man of the World (1998). The album reached number 1 on the Japanese Indie chart, setting stage for the commercial success of their second album, A Forlorn Hope (2001), which reached number 2 on the Oricon Albums chart. Each of their subsequent albums – The Middle Way (2004), Antimony (2008), Eternal Recurrence (2009), Overcoming (2013), and Bonbai (2018) – entered the Top 10. The band also released several compilations and eight DVDs, as well as a half-dozen Top 10 singles including “Deep” (1999), “Handan’s Pillow” (2007), “That Limit” (2015), and “Tonight” (2017). After the release of their Bonbai album, Brahman released three further acclaimed singles: “Jen Ai Fei Gon” (2019), “Cluster Blaster” (2020) and “Slow Dance” (2021).
