Bruce Liu

Pianist Bruce Liu – born Xiaoyu Liu in Paris, France on May 8, 1997 – is a Montreal, Canada-based classical pianist or Chinese origin who came to prominence in 2021 when he won first prize at the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, Poland. Born in Paris, he moved with his father to Montreal when he was six, studying piano at home. He graduated from the Montreal Conservatory of Music and then continued his studies at the Université de Montréal. At the age of 15, he began performing with various ensembles, beginning with the Cleveland Orchestra, and continuing with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, the NCPA Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Americas, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, and the Lviv National Philharmonic. Bruce Liu has competed internationally many times, placing second place at the Thomas & Evon Cooper International Competition (2012), and winning top prize at the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal Standard Life Competition (2012), at the Prix d’Europe (2015). On October 23, 2021, he earned international attention when he was crowned the winner of the International Chopin Piano Competition in 2021. In November of that year, he released his debut album Bruce Liu: Winner of the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition 2021 and followed that with the release of Piano Concerto In E Minor, Sonata In B Flat Minor, Ballade In F Major, Rondo à la Mazur in March 2022.
