Clouseau

Belgian pop group Clouseau was founded in 1984 by songwriter and drummer Bob Savenberg, who named it after the character played by Peter Sellers in the film series The Pink Panther. He set up the project with brothers Koen and Kim Wauters, along with Tjen Berghmans and Karel Theys. The band released their first single, "Brandweer," in 1987. Sales were sluggish, but the following year, Clouseau came to prominence with "Alleen met Jou," a cover of Gordon Campbell's "With a Woman Like You," which climbed to number 25 in the Belgian charts. In 1989, the band enjoyed widespread success, scoring their first number 1 with "Anne.” At the same time, they released their first album, Hoezo? (number 2 in the Netherlands). Clouseau repeated the performance of their previous single with "Daar Gaat Ze" the following year. In 1990, Clouseau saw a string of hits including "Louise" (number 9), "Wil Niet Dat Je Weggaat" (number 12), "Heel Alleen" (number 3) and "Domino" (number 4). The group also released the albums Of Zo... (number 2 in 1990) and their first English language album Close Encounters (number 18 in 1991). In quick succession, two members resigned from the group in 1990 and 1991: Tjen Berghmans and Karel Theys. Further albums in the band’s catalog include Doorgaan (number 19 in 1992), In Every Small Town (number 65 in 1993), Oker (which topped the charts in Belgium and the Netherlands in 1995) and Adrenaline (number 1 in Belgium in 1996). That year, founding member Bob Savenberg also left the group, but not before recording one last track, "Nobelprijs," in 1996. Nevertheless, the band's success continued unabated, with their next eight albums topping the Belgian charts: In Stereo (1999), Vanbinnen (2004), Vonken & Vurr (2007), Zij Aan Zij (2009), Clouseau (2013), Clouseau Danst (2016), Clouseau30 (2017), and Tweesprong (2019). In 2022, they released the album Jonge Wolven, which was followed in 2024 by the single, "Vuurwerk," which reached number 43 in the Flanders charts.
