Cold Kingdom

The Minnesota-based hard rock band Cold Kingdom formed in 2014 in Minneapolis. Evan Ogaard, Patrick Murphy, Danielle "Dani" Engum, Aaron Schutz, and Jason Michael comprised the band's original lineup, and the group unveiled its dark, hard-hitting sound with 2015's full-length album The Moon and the Fool. A self-titled EP, Cold Kingdom, followed in 2017, featuring production from Shinedown's Eric Bass. Despite mounting momentum in the hard rock and heavy metal markets, vocalist Dani Engum left the group one year later, announcing her departure in May 2018. Cold Kingdom filled her vacancy with another female singer, Elissa-Marie Ogaard, who made her debut with the 2019 single "A New Disaster." The song appeared on the band's second full-length record, Into the Black Sky, which was released later that year. An EP, Devil in Me, and an acoustic recording of "After the Fall" both followed in 2020, but the Covid-19 pandemic prevented the band from touring in support of those releases. Stuck at home in Minneapolis, Cold Kingdom began working on new tracks. The first of those songs, "Criminal," was released in February 2022, featuring a duet with Ogaard and Ashes to New's vocalist Danny Case. The song became the band's first radio hit, reaching Number 39 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Songs chart. Another single, "Agony," was released later that year, with both songs whipping up anticipation for Cold Kingdom's follow-up to Into the Black Sky.
