Dimitris Basis

Dimitris Basis is a Greek singer in the Laïko tradition and, with two decades of records behind him, a mainstay in the Greek music world. Basis was born in Stuttgart to immigrant Greek parents and spent the early years of his life there before moving back to a remote Grecian village. At the age of nine he began singing at the local church and at 12 started taking formal music lessons. By the time he reached his 20s he had been singing at various cultural events for several years and made the move to begin performing professionally. He attracted the attention of Warner, signing a record deal and beginning to sing with Alkistis Protopsalti. In 1997 Basis released his first album, 'Me tin Fora tou Anemou', and over the next two decades proved a prolific artist with 14 albums under his belt and numerous collaborations with artists including Christos Nikolopoulos, Giorgos Andreou, Dionysis Savvopoulos, Charis Romas and Leuteris Papadopoulos.
