Donald

Donald Clifton McCluskey (July 9, 1946), mononymously known as Donald, is an Argentine singer-songwriter and actor who rose to prominence in the late 1960s with a series of catchy Latin pop hits and ballads. The son of American jazz musician Don Dean, he made his debut as a singer in 1960 on El Show de Antonio Prieto and later became a cast member of the music program Ritmo y Juventud. In 1962, Donald recorded his first LP for Music Hall, Voz de Juventud, which included songs like "Desencadena Mi Corazón," "Hermosos Ojos Azules," and "Lluvia de Primavera." After moving to the Microfon label in 1966, he released a handful of English singles under the name Donald Dean and formed the group Dean Brothers with his siblings. His big breakthrough came in 1969 with the single "Tiritando," a Nono Pugliese original that became extremely popular in Argentina after being featured in a cigarette commercial. Eventually, the hit single became Donald's signature song, and its parent album of the same name sold over 600,000 units. In the following years, summer anthems like "En una Playa Junto al Mar" (1969), "Un Verano Naranja" (1970), and "Siempre Fuimos Compañeros" (1970) all enjoyed great popularity in the local charts and established Donald as one of the most successful singers in the Argentine pop scene. In 1983, he had a few minor hits with the songs "Vamos a la Playa" and "Dolce Vita," originally popularized by Italo disco pioneers Righeira and Ryan Paris, respectively. Released exclusively via Donald's Soundcloud page, the singles "El Secreto Está en Ti" and "Pura Vida" appeared in 2013.
