Eins Zwo

During their brief five-year career the German hip-hop duo Eins Zwo released just two albums and a handful of singles but had a major impact on the German rap and hip-hop scene. Their debut EP 'S.P.O.R.T.' was released in 1998 and despite being a fairly basic, un-mastered version of an earlier demo tape, illegal bootlegs of the EP soon became hot property on the underground hip-hop scene and the band's reputation grew organically. The duo was comprised of Thomas Jensen and Daniel Abel aka DJ Rabauke and MC Dendemann and in 1999 they released their critically-acclaimed debut album 'Gefährliches Halbwissen'. The album demonstrated Abel's talent for lyrics and it quickly became a hit, swept along by the rapidly growing interest in German hip-hop which took it to number ten in the charts. Fans had to wait two years for the album's follow-up 'Zwei' to be released. Sadly, 'Zwei' failed to capitalise on the success of their debut and it received a lukewarm reception from both fans and critics. The duo decided to call time on Eins Zwo and, with the release of the EP 'Discjockeys' in 2003, it was announced the band would split.
