Ghetts

British grime artist Ghetts was born on October 9, 1984, in the Plaistow district of East London. After serving a prison sentence at the age of 18, he began releasing mixtapes under the name Ghetto in 2005, kicking off his career as an MC with 2000 & Life. Following the release of 2007's Ghetto Gospel and 2008's Freedom of Speech, he changed his alias to Ghetts for 2010's Calm Before the Storm, which cemented his reputation as one of the UK's up-and-coming grime heavyweights. Four years later, Ghetts released his full-length debut, Rebel, which peaked at Number 5 on the UK R&B Albums chart and earned multiple nominations from the MOBO Awards, the BET Hip Hop Awards, and the Urban Music Awards. Ghetto Gospel: The New Testament was released in September 2018, the same month that The Intent 2: The Come Up—a British movie starring Ghetts in the lead role—hit theaters. In 2021, a third album titled Conflict of Interest saw the light of day, featuring guest spots by Skepta, Dave, Wretch 32, Stormzy, Ed Sheeran, and Emeli Sandé. The album hit Number 2 in the UK and spawned the single “Crud,” which featured fellow rapper Giggs and climbed to Number 88 on the UK’s Official Singles Chart. Ghetts welcomed the new year with a new album in January 2024, his LP fourth to date. He gave fans the first taste of On Purpose, with Purpose in October 2023 via the lead single "Laps" with Moonchild Sanelly.
