Holy Moses

German thrash metal originators Holy Moses formed in Aachen, West Germany in 1980 and released seven full-length albums before parting ways for the first time in 1994. Initially comprising bassist Ramon Brüssler, drummer Peter Vonderstein and guitarist/vocalist Jochen Fünders, they dropped their Black Metal Masters demo in 1980. A few lineup changes would take place before the band's full-length debut saw the light of day. Drummer Peter Vonderstein and Jochen Fünders quit the group in 1981 and were replaced by drummer Paul Linzenich, vocalist Iggy, and guitarist Andy Classen from the local band Desaste. Iggy subsequently quit and was replaced by ex-Desaster bassist and wife of Andy, Sabina Classen (née Hirtz). Holy Moses made their debut under the new lineup in 1982 and began honing their sound across several demo tapes, including Walpurgis Night in 1985, and The Bitch in 1986, and were also featured on the split-album compilation Metallic Bunnys. Debut album Queen of Siam arrived in 1986 via independent label Aaarrg with Herbert Dreger on drums following Paul Linzenich's departure. Co-written by Andy and Sabina Classon, sophomore effort Finished with the Dogs arrived in 1987 and put them on the German metal map, with third album The New Machine of Liechtenstein following two years later. The band turned in a string of releases during the first half of the 1990s—1990's World Chaos, 1991's Terminal Terror, and 1992's Reborn Dogs—before calling it a day essentially after Sabina and Andy Classen announced their divorce. A post-breakup album, (No Matter... What's the Cause), surfaced in 1994 with Holy Moses re-emerging under the leadership of Sabina Cassen and a new set of band members (Thomas Neitsch on bass, Gerd Lücking on drums and Peter Geltat on guitar) in late 2000, and the Master of Disaster EP landing in 2001, followed by 2002's Disorder of Order LP and 2005's Strength Power Will Passion LP. After a nine-year hiatus, the band released Invisible Queen, the first of its records to appear in the German charts, where it reached number 14.
