Jorge Vercillo

Jorge Vercillo is a singer, actor, writer and musician from Brazil with several Latin Grammy nominations, TV theme songs and albums to his credit. Born in Rio in 1968, he studied journalism to degree level but it was to music that he was eventually drawn primarily by listening to the work of singer and guitarist Djavan Caetano Viana; this was the impetus behind him starting to perform in local clubs when he was just 16 years of age. His first album was 'Encontro das Aguas'. The album produced two tracks that were featured in popular Brazilian soap operas, a career path that he would tread again and again. In 1999 he released 'Leve' which included a return to his earliest roots as he duetted with Djavan who had inspired him in his youth. Vercillo continued to write, record and release music throughout the 1990s and into the new millennium, collaborating with Brazilian and international artists and in 2013 being nominated for a Latin Grammy for Best Album for 'Luar de Sol'. That was also the year he partnered with Dudu Falcao to create the highly-popular 'Compositores Unidos' TV series. In 2015, following the release of his 'Vida é Arte' album he paused in releasing music, returning in 2019 with 'Nas Minhas Maos'.
