Julia Hülsmann

Julia Hulsmann is a German pianist and composer whose interpretations of songs by artists such as Randy Newman, Nick Drake and Sting and music set to poetry by Emily Dickinson, E.E. Cummings and Walt Whitman have earned acclaim in her homeland. She has toured internationally and released several albums starting with 'Scattering Poems' with singer Rebekka Bakken in 2003. She has recorded with her eponymous Trio and Quartet and collaborated on albums with Italian singer Anna Lauvergnac on 'Come Closer' in 2004 and German vocalist Roger Cicero on 'Good Morning Midnight' in 2006. Her 2015 release 'A Clear Midnight - Kurt Weill and America' features another German singer Theo Bleckmann. Hulsman performs regularly with her Trio and released the album 'Sooner and Later' in 2017. She teaches in Berlin and Hannover and had a stint as chairman of the Union of German Jazz Musicians.
