Kerson Leong

Kerson Leong – born February 26, 1997, in Ottawa, Canada – is an acclaimed classical violinist. He began to learn the violin at the age of four and studied under former Montreal Symphony Orchestra concertmaster Calvin Sieb. In 2005, he won his first Grand Prize at the Canadian Music Competition, receiving the highest score of any age category or instrument. He would then go on to win the competition four more times (2006-2009). He then won first prize at the Yehudi Menuhin International Competition for Young Violinists in 2010. This win led to international attention, and he made his debuts in several European countries shortly after. In 2012, he performed Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 4 with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra in Rome, Italy. Continuing his winning streak, Kerson Leong won the Grand Prize at the Canadian Stepping Stone Competition while also being named Classical Revelation of the season by CBC Radio – Canada. In 2016, he released his first album, Bis, and performed the world premiere of Visions, a piece that had been written specifically for him by acclaimed British composer John Rutter. He later recorded Visions with the Aurora Orchestra and also performed it in Australia, Hong Kong, London, and New York (at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium). Kerson Leong served as artist-in-residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel (2015-2019) and at the Orchestre Métropolitain of Montreal (2018) and was invited to perform at the 44th G7 summit in Charlevoix, Canada. Signing to the Alpha Classics label, he released Ysaÿe: Six Sonatas for Solo Violin (2021) and Britten & Bruch: Violin Concertos (2023).
