La India

Linda Viera Caballero, aka La India, is a singer and songwriter who was born in Puerto Rico but found fame in the USA with salsa stylings before moving into pop and house music later in her career. Beginning her professional singing life at the age of 16 as the singer in the band TKA, she didn't adopt her popular stage name due to her record label's plan to model her after Madonna with the 'Breaking Night' pop album. After this she returned to her first love, salsa. Her next album, 'Llego La India via Eddie Palmieri' broke the ground for this style and gained her the title Princess of Salsa. Singing and writing both in Spanish and English, La India performed both in her adopted country and also in the land of her birth, regularly selling out venues. Her collaborations took in many of the stars of Latin music including Louis Vegas and Gloria Estefan and saw her working through the new millennium, with 2019 seeing her receiving two Guinness World Records for most number one singles on the Billboard Tropical Song Airplay Chart for a female artist, and for the most number one albums on the Billboard Tropical Album Chart.
