Legion of the Damned

Formed in 1992 in the Netherlands, death metal and thrash band Occult was founded by vocalist Maurice Swinkels, drummer Erik Fleuren, guitarist Leon Pennings, and bassist Sjors Tuithof. They issued their debut album, Prepare to Meet Thy Doom, in 1994, and followed that up with a series of albums including The Enemy Within (1996), Of Flesh and Blood (1999), Rage to Revenge (2001), and Elegy for the Weak (2003). The group had gone through several line-up changes and, in 2005, they changed their name to Legion of the Damned and released their first album under that name, Malevolent Rapture, in 2006. The album was followed by Sons of the Jackal (2007), Feel the Blade (2008), Cult of the Dead (2008), Descent Into Chaos (2011), Ravenous Plague (2014), the German Top 20 release Slaves of the Shadow Realm (2019), and The Poison Chalice (2023), which rose to Number 7 on the German Albums chart.
