Luke Haines

With musical projects ranging from the spaced-out, psychedelia of Black Box Recorder, the agit indie of Baader Meinhof and the dream pop of The Auteurs, Luke Haines has become one of the great eccentric, British singer/songwriters of recent times. His latest incarnation sees him unite with prolific Irish singer Cathal Coughlan - formerly with Microdisney and Fatima Mansions - and Australian writer Andrew Mueller. They dress in military uniforms from the Boer War and give musical lectures on a fanciful, alternative history of the British Isles - including the attempted kidnap of Princess Anne. Originally formed for performances at The Edge festival in Edinburgh in 2011, the Scrolls re-telling the UK's recent past were given to Haines by comedian Tony Allen, who supposedly found them in a bin outside Waitrose supermarket, and reveal a wonderful daft and bizarre set of revelations. The lecture is captured on the 42-track, self-titled double album released through Fantastic Plastic Records and was given rave reviews by The Independent, Guardian and Times newspapers.
