Japanese voice actress and pop star Maaya Uchida was born December 27, 1989 in Tokyo. A childhood interest in video games dovetailed with an ongoing interest in theater, leading her to pursue a career as voice actor. After studying that skill in school, she landed her first professional voiceover gig in 2009. She worked steadily in various anime series starting in 2010 and started booking regular work in animated films and video games in 2013. She launched a career as a pop singer in 2014 with the single “Soushou Innocence”. It did well enough that “Gimme! Revolution” followed later that year. Those songs both appeared on her 2015 debut LP PENKI, which cracked the top 10. That same year she was recognized as the best voice actress in the country at the Seiyu Awards. Though her voiceover work continued at a prolific rate, she maintained her singing career with hits like “+INTERSECT+” and “c.o.s.m.o.s”, both of which landed her in the top 10 in 2017. Those tracks appeared on her 2018 album Magi Hour, which like its predecessor went top 10. Hit singles continued to accumulate with 2018’s “youthful beautiful” and 2019’s “Kodou Escalation” both returning her to the top 10.
