Madrugada

The Norwegian trio Madrugada has nothing to do with fado or flamenco, as their Iberian name might suggest. Comprising vocalist Sivert Høyem, bassist Frode Jacobsen, and late guitarist and songwriter Robert Burås, Madrugada stands for alternative rock with often melancholic moods, offering a direct line to acts like Gun Club or Morphine. Madrugada was founded in 1995 and released their debut album Industrial Silence in 1999. The band's sophomore album, 2001's The Nightly Disease, received critical acclaim, as did 2005 offering The Deep End. Fifth studio album Madrugada was released in 2008 following the death of guitarist Robert Burås on 12 July 2007. The band then disbanded. In 2010, the compilation The Best of Madrugada was issued, which contained Madrugada's top tracks as well as unreleased studio and live recordings. In 2011, The Nightly Disease was released as a deluxe edition to mark its 10th anniversary on 4xLP vinyl. A reunion took place at the end of the 2010s and a new studio album, Chimes at Midnight, followed in 2022. The following year, Madrugada released the live album Industrial Silence Tour 2019.
