Marquess

A German pop band whose songs are predominantly performed in Spanish, Marquess formed in Hanover, Lower Saxony, in 2006. The four bandmates — frontman Sascha Pierro, bassist Marco Heggen, keyboardist Christian Fleps, and guitarist Dominik Decker — had all worked as producers before they launched Marquees. "El Temperamento," the group's debut single, was released during the summer of 2006 and became an international hit throughout Europe, even reaching the Top 10 in Germany. The song also appeared on the band's first album, Marquess, which was released that September. A Top 40 hit in Germany, the eponymous Marquess was followed by Frenetica in 2007. Frenetica peaked at Number 2 on the Top German Albums chart, propelled in large part by the hit single "Vayamos compañeros," which reached Number 2 in Germany, Number 5 in Austria, Number 10 in Sweden, and Number 1 in Switzerland. 2008's ¡Ya! Featured the Top 10 hits "La histeria" and "La vida es limonada," with the album itself also reaching the Top 10. 2009's Compañía del sol, 2012's Welcome!, and 2014's Favorites were all Top 40 releases in both Germany and Switzerland, although the band never revisited the upper reaches of the singles charts after hitting Number 16 in Germany with 2009's "Arriba." Nonetheless, Marquess continued releasing well-received albums into the early 2020s, which highlights including 2018's En movimiento, 2020's Turbulento, and 2023's Energía.
