Marquis

Marquis is a French post-punk/cold wave band formed in 2020 out tragic circumstances. The origins of the band began in Rennes, France when singer Philippe Pascal and guitarist Frank Darcel founded the band Marquis de Sade. Despite its short existence - the band split in 1981 - they left a lasting mark on the Rennes scene, leaving behind two influential cold wave albums: Dantzig Twist (1979) and Rue de Siam (1981). The band - Philippe Pascal, Franck Darcel, Thierry Alexandre (bass) and Eric Morgen (drums) - reunited in 2017 for a series of live shows. In 2019, the band began to prepare to record their third studio album - 38 years after the release of their second - but the project came to a halt when Philippe Pascal commited suicide on September 12, 2019. However, in 2020, Franck Darcel announced that the songs that had been written for the third album would be recorded and released by the group under the abbreviated band name Marquis. With new Belgian vocalist Simon Mahieu, they released the album Aurora in 2021, which featured a collaboration with French musician/producer Etienne Daho.
