Mini Dresses are a Boston-based trio who write dreamy, wistful indie pop songs that typically include jangly guitar licks and reverb-heavy vocals. Following several home recordings, the band released their self-titled studio debut in 2017.
The band started out in the summer of 2012, when Austin residents Lira Mondal and Caufield Schnug began writing and recording nostalgic lo-fi pop tunes at home. The digital EP Summer Recordings and debut 7" Hot Sun (issued by Manic Pop! Records) both appeared that September. The duo relocated to Boston and continued releasing digital EPs, and eventually began playing shows, joined by drummer Luke Reed. A self-titled 7" was released by Box Bedroom Rebels in 2014, and the cassette EP Four appeared on Little Death Records in 2015. Following 2016's Sad Eyes EP, as well as gigs with bands such as Deerhunter, Chastity Belt, and Tacocat, Mini Dresses signed to Joy Void in 2017. The label released Collected Singles and EPs that July, followed by the group's self-titled debut full-length in September. Heaven Sent, the band's second album, appeared in 2019, consisting of both studio and home recordings. ~ Paul Simpson
