Producer/multi-instrumentalist Patrick Paige II was highly successful as a founding member of the Internet, a group more commonly associated with Odd Future affiliate Syd tha Kyd. Primarily acting as bassist for the Internet, Paige worked diligently on his own music as well, releasing an instrumental EP in 2015 before a proper debut LP materialized a few years later. That album, 2018's Letters of Irrelevance, showcased Paige's gift for jazz-inflected hip-hop as well as his talent for vulnerable lyricism and deep songwriting.
Los Angeles-based musician Patrick Paige II worked with the Internet primarily as their bassist following the group's formation in 2011. Similar to the Internet's acid jazz and neo-soul influences and proclivity for experimental production, Paige's solo music was a boundary-pushing pastiche of styles. His first solo release came in the form of the 2015 EP Prelude. The EP was a completely instrumental affair, but Paige slowly dipped his toe into the role of vocalist/rapper/songwriter on the soul-baring 2017 single "You Ain't Missing Much." He preceded his 2018 debut album, Letters of Irrelevance, with the singles "Voodoo" and "On My Mind/Charge It to the Game" featuring Syd and Kari Faux. The album was released a few weeks later in May of 2018, blending Paige's gifts for instrumental composition with exceptionally open lyrics and inventive production. ~ Fred Thomas
