Peter Evans

Avant-garde and improvisational jazz trumpeter Peter Evans was born on October 2, 1981. He attended the New England Conservatory of Music’s School of Preparatory Education and graduated from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio. A resident of New York since 2003, Peter Evans has immersed himself in the avant-garde jazz scene, determined to enhance the genre with free-flowing collaborations with a series of artists including John Zorn, Peter Brötzmann, Evan Parker, Mary Halvorson, Weasel Walter, Okkyung Lee, and many others. He has been a member of many bands including Mostly Other People Do the Killing, the Peter Evans Quintet, and Being & Becoming. He has recorded a series of albums as a leader beginning with 2006’s More Is More. In 2011, he set up his own label, More Is More (MIM), which was named after his debut album. His first releases on the label were the albums Ghosts and Beyond Civilized and Primitive, both released in 2011. Further albums on the label include Zebulon (2013), Destination: Void (2014) and Being and Becoming (2020). As a composer, Peter Evans has been commissioned by the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), Wet Ink, Yarn/Wire, the Jerome Foundation's Emerging Artist Program, and the Doris Duke Foundation.
