Peyote Asesino

Peyote Asesino is a music group from Uruguay, combining elements of hip-hop, metal, and funk music. The band formed in 1994 in Montevideo, Uruguay, with the original lineup consisting of vocalist Fernando "L. Mental" Santullo, bassist Daniel Benia, guitarist Juan Campodónico, and drummer Roberto Rodino. Soon after, Roberto Rodino would be replaced by Pepe Canedo, and Carlos Casacuberta would join on guitar and vocals. After getting their start by winning a radio station competition, they were able to record their debut album Orfeo in 1995. The album received a positive reception from the burgeoning Latin American rap-rock scene. After embarking on a successful tour with Mexican band Molotov, the group signed with record label Surco-Universal. In 1998, they released their second album Terraja, which further increased the group’s international profile and led to more live performances with groups such as Cypress Hill and Bersuit Vergarabat. However, the group chose to disband in 1999. Ten years later, Peyote Asesino reunited with a series of live performances, which would continue through the 2010s. In 2017, they released their first new track since the 90s, titled “Bailando Samba.” Peyote Asesino would go on to release more new music in 2020 and 2021, including the new single “Es Lo Que Hay.”
