RudeLuck

Formed in 1988 by musicians Luck Mervil, Rudy Toussaint, Frédérick Thivierge, Éric Brassard, and Michel Gagnon, RudeLuck is a funk, reggae, and hip-hop band from Quebec. After winning the competition L'Empire des futures stars in 1992, the group headed into the studio and delivered their eponymous studio debut the following year. Driven by the hit single "Faute pas craquer," which received heavy airplay on several local radio stations, RudeLuck was also released in France and other French-speaking countries. This success was followed by their sophomore effort Two in 1995, an album sung entirely in English that featured a cover of Cat Stevens' "Moon Shadow." Even though Frédérick Thivierge, Éric Brassard, and Michel Gagnon left the band to pursue other projects after the release of Two, Luck Mervil and Rudy Toussaint soldiered on with a new lineup and issued their third LP, Pour le Meilleur et pour le Pire, in 1998. Despite the popularity of singles like "Révolution," "Au nom de?," and "Solitude dans la foule," RudeLuck split up later that year. Frontman Luck Mervil went on to join the cast of the stage musical Notre-Dame de Paris and embarked on a solo career that spawned the albums Luck Mervil (2000), Soul (2003), and Ti peyi a (2009).
