Selah Sue

Sanne Putseys, who performs as Selah Sue, is a Belgian singer/songwriter who rose to fame with her multi-platinum, self-titled debut in 2011. Born in the Flemish region of Leefdaal on May 3rd, 1989, she learned to play the guitar as a teenager and began to write songs. She studied psychology at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and began laying the foundation for her music career, with Belgian musician Jonathan Vandenbroeck (also known as Milow) serving as her mentor. After releasing the debut EP Black Part Love in 2009, she earned commercial success and critical acclaim with her self-titled debut album, 2011's Selah Sue. The album went quadruple-platinum in Belgium, where it topped the charts, and double-platinum in France, where it peaked at Number 9. Sue went on to collaborate with several heavyweights of the global dance music scene, including local drum and bass star Netsky, British chart sensation DJ Fresh, and omnipresent American producer Diplo. She also released a second album, 2015's Reason, which marked her second Number 1 record in Belgium. Reason's lead single, "Alone," became her first Top 10 hit in France, and Selah Sue took a five-year hiatus before returning in 2020 with a new EP, Bedroom, which reached Number 17 in her homeland. Two years later, she released her third album, Persona. Featuring the Top 40 hit "Pills," the album climbed to Number 5 in Belgium and Number 18 in France.
