SixTONES

Six-person Japanese idol boy band SixTONES (ストーンズ, Sutōnzu, stylized as SixTONES and pronounced "Stones") assembled in Japan in 2015, with each member offering a unique sound and perspective. Comprising leader Yugo Kochi (髙地優吾, Kōchi Yūgo), Taiga Kyomoto (京本大我, Kyōmoto Taiga, Juri Tanaka (田中樹, Tanaka Juri) Hokuto Matsumura (松村北斗, Matsumura Hokuto), Jesse (ジェシー, Jeshi), and Shintaro Morimoto (森本慎太郎, Morimoto Shintarō), the group first came into being via episode of Japanese music variety show, Shounen Club, in January 2015, where they performed a cover of "Hell No" by KAT-TUN. They spent the next few years sharpening their live act via a flurry of concerts, online appearances, and with their first music video, "Japonica Style", which was produced by Hideaki Takizaw. SixTONES, who were formed by Japanese talent agency Johnny & Associates, released their first music video, "Japonica Style", as part of the campaign on the Johnny's Jr Channel. Later that year, they completed their first YouTube Livestream at YouTube Space Tokyo. Following the launch of their own YouTube channel in 2019, they made their recorded debut at the start of January 2020 with the single "Imitation Rain/D.D". In November 2020, their new song "New Era" was featured on anime TV series Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon. Bringing together hip-hop, EDM, and a range of other styles, the group's debut album, 1ST, materialised in January 2021 and shot to the top of Japan's Oricon Albums Chart and Billboard Japan Hot Albums chart. The follow-up, City, landed a year later, with album track "Rosy" used as the theme song for the Japanese dub of Spider-Man: No Way Home. City gave the group another Japanese number one in the week following its release in January 2022. The group scored their third consecutive Japanese number-one LP with Koe (声) the following year, a victory they repeated in January 2024 with fourth studio album The Vibes, a record whose tone is as sunny and upbeat as its title would suggest.
