Suarez

The Belgian band Suarez built a loyal following in their native country, as well as France and Canada, playing a unique fusion of rock and pop that added traditional ethnic music from various countries. Frontman Marc Pinilla joined forces with brothers Pata and Max Randriamanjava, as well as the brothers’ cousin Dada Ravalison in 2008. That year they released their debut album, On Attend, which hit the top ten and launched a pair of hit singles, the title track and “Juste pour voir”. Their sophomore album, L’Indécideur outsold their debut, climbed to number 6 on the charts and contained four top 40 singles including “Qu’est-ce que j’aime ça”, “L’Indécideur”, and “Le Temps de voir”. The album also established them in the Belgian music industry by garnering the country’s top industry award for Album of the Year, and the group took home Best New Talent. They had their first number 1 song with “La Fin du monde” in 2011 and became a quintet with the addition of drummer David Donnat that same year. They released one new single each of the next two years laying the groundwork for 2014’s En Équilibre, which would become their first number 1 album. 2017’s Ni Rancoeur Ni Colère almost matched it, peaking at number 2. Pinilla took some time away from the band to recharge himself creatively, and Suarez returned in 2020 with the single “Bienvenue”.
