The Murlocs

Australia's psych-tinted garagey alt-rock regulars The Murlocs formed in 2011 and built up a much-loved fanbase and repertoire comprising five albums and a duo of EPs. Ambrose Kenny-Smith (vocals and harmonica), Cal Shortal (guitar), Cook Craig (bass guitar), Tim Karmouche (keyboards), and Matt Blach (drums) met on Victoria's Surf Coast and infuse their beachy, laid-back offerings with an undeniable blast of sunny surf-rock. The Melbourne-based five-piece, with members hailing from various other Australian rock troupes including King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and Crepes, stepped out with their debut self-titled EP in March 2012, followed by a second EP, Tee Pee, in August that year, released on their future long-time home of Australian indie label Flightless. The band dropped their first studio album, Loopholes, in 2014 and their second LP, Young Blindness, came in 2016, making waves with its second single and breakthrough track, "Rolling On." The third album from The Murlocs, Old Locomotive (2017), brought the band chart success, making it to Number 15 on Australia's ARIA album charts. Their fourth album, Manic Candid Episode, arrived in March 2019 and 2021 saw the arrival of their fifth album Bittersweet Demons; a retro-shaped psych adventure yet again brought to life by the appearance of the harmonica.
