Yaşar

Born Mehmet Yaşar Günaçgün on 5 April 1970 in Adana, the Turkish pop artist known professionally as Yaşar developed a taste for music while playing in his high school orchestra and first performed live on stage in November 1985. After moving to Istanbul for his studies, he cut his teeth on the city's live scene with a band while simultaneously breaking into poetry. Post-graduation, in 1996 he set about recording his debut studio album Divane, which went gold, and the following year he was awarded the Best Debut by a Male Artist at the Kral TV Music Video Awards. This was followed by second album Esirinim in 1998 and third album Masal in 2001. He cemented his national fame on a nationwide tour and in January 2003 released fourth album Sevdiğim Şarkılar, followed by fifth album Hatırla in May 2005. Alongside penning several volumes of poetry books, he has consistently put out albums and singles over the years, entering the Turkish charts with 2006's Sevda Sinemalarda—scoring a number one single with "Hayırdır İnşallah"—while also collaborating with a host of artists and composers including Melih Kibar (2020) and Daniska on the "Peki Ya Şimdi?" duet in 2021. 2022 saw the arrival of the singles "İhanet Ettin," "Var Mı?" with Barbaros, and "Camları Tükenmez Pencerelerin."
