Ziana Zain

Ziana Zain was one of Malaysia's biggest pop-culture icons during the 1990s, a decade that found her juggling successful careers as an award-winning musician and actress. She was born in Kampung Sempang as "Siti Roziana binti Zain" on May 2, 1968, and released her debut album, Madah Berhelah, in 1991. The record's title track became one of her signature songs, pushing the album itself to gold status in Malaysia. The self-titled Ziana Zain followed in 1993 and went platinum, thanks in part to the success of the ballads "Anggapan Mu" and "Putus Terpaksa." She made her film debut one year later with Sembilu, then reached a new musical milestone with her third album, 1995's Setia Ku Di Sini. The record went triple-platinum and was named "Best Female Vocal Album" at the Anugerah Industri Muzik ceremony in 1996. 1997's Puncak Kasih was similarly popular, earning another Anugerah Industri Muzik award (this time for "Best Pop Album") and sending its title track to Number 1 on Malaysia's Carta Muzik Muzik chart for a record-breaking 15 weeks. Another self-titled record, Ziana Zain, was released in 1999 and went platinum, with Aku Cintakan Mu and Dingin both arriving during the following decade. She also duetted with Awie on the popular single "Halaman Asmara," which was released on 2010's Jom Balik Kampung...Raya, and continued acting in television series like Kampung Kolestrol.
