Hady Mirza

The Singaporean pop singer Hady Mirza rose to prominence in 2006, after winning the second season of the televised singing competition Singapore Idol. Born as Muhammad Mirzahady Bin Amir on January 28, 1980, he was raised by a Buginese family and studied engineering before auditioning for Singapore Idol in February 2006. Singing songs by Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi, and Journey, he advanced to the show's finale and ultimately won the competition in September. His chart-topping debut album, Hady Mirza, was released two months later and went platinum in four days. The album's version of the Chaka Khan classic "You Give Me a Wings" peaked at Number 1 on Singapore's singles chart, as did Hady Mirza's original composition "Merpati." One year later, "Merpati" was named "Most Popular Singapore Song" at the Anugerah Planet Muzik awards ceremony. Hady Mirza won his second reality TV singing competition, Asian Idol, that same year. His second solo album, Sang Penyanyi, was released in December 2009 and featured the Number 1 single "Angkasa," which remained in its chart-topping position for a record-setting 29 weeks. "Angkasa" was deemed "Most Popular Singapore Song" and "Most Popular Regional Song" at Anugerah Planet Muzik's 2011 ceremony, with Sang Penyanyi's next single, "Ku Tetap Kan Menunggu," winning the same two awards during the following year's Anugerah Planet Muzik. Hady Mirza later competed in the sixth season of the Malay singing competition Gegar Vaganza in 2019, tying with Naqiu as the show's first-place champion.
