Johnny Ruffo

Born John Patrick Ruffo on March 8, 1988, in Balcatta – a suburb of Perth, Western Australia – the multi-talented artist known as Johnny Ruffo got his start on the third season of The X Factor Australia, where he finished third in 2011. He released his debut single, "On Top," in June 2012, with the feel-good dance-pop pop peaking at number 14 on Australia's ARIA Singles Chart and certified platinum by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA). His follow-up single, "Take Me Home" – another bracing burst of dance-orientated pop energy – arrived in October that year and made it to number 39 on the ARIA chart. In 2013, he expanded his skillset to the world of television, making his acting debut in the popular Australian soap opera Home and Away as Chris Harrington. He went on to release two singles in 2015: "She Got that O" and "White Christmas." In August 2017, Johnny Ruffo revealed he had undergone surgery to remove a brain tumor and was given the all-clear in 2019, the same year he released the single “Broken Glass.” However, in November 2020, he announced that the cancer had returned. In June 2021, he confirmed he was once again in a stable condition and that year released a new single inspired by his experiences, titled "Let's Get Lost." In August 2022, he announced that his cancer was terminal and one year later, on November 10, 2023, Johnny Ruffo died at the age of 35.
