Kyoko Koizumi

J-Pop singer and actress Kyōko Koizumi was born in Atsugi, Kanagawa, Japan on February 4, 1966. She came to prominence in 1981 when she was a contestant on televised talent show Star Tanjo! She released her first single, “My 16 Year Old,” in 1982, followed closely by her debut album, My Fantasy. That same year, she also began a long career on television, appearing on the show Toge no Gunzo (1982). She began to build an audience with a series of singles that landed in the Top 10, finally reaching the Number 1 position with the 1984 singles “Beach Mermaid,” “Labyrinth Andorra,” “Yamato Nadeshiko Shichihenge,” and “The Stardust Memory.” Her success continued into 1985 with the chart toppers “Everlasting Summer Girl,” “Witch,” and “Idol After All.” One of her most successful singles was 1991’s “I’m Glad To Meet You,” which reached Number 1 and remained at the top for numerous weeks. Acting in films since 1986, she decided to focus on her acting career in the mid-1990s and became a popular actress on TV and in films. However, she didn’t entirely abandon her singing career, releasing albums such as Inner Beauty (2003), Nice Middle (2008), and Koizumi Chansonnier (2012). In total, Kyōko Koizumi has released over two dozen albums, 40+ singles, and many compilations during her music career. Returning to her music career, she performed live in 2022 and released the album KKPP ~ Tour 2022 Live at Nakano Sun Plaza Hall~ in September of that year.
