Masami Okui

Born on March 13, 1968, in Itami, Hyogo, J-pop, J-rock, and anison singer Masami Okui took her first steps as a performer at the age of 21, singing backup vocals for Yuki Saito. Released in 1993, her debut single "Dare Yori mo Zutto" served as the theme song for the anime series OAV The Girl from Phantasia. The song was included in her first studio album Gyuu, which was released in 1995 via Starchild and peaked at Number 47 on the Oricon charts. Over the next few years, Masami Okui became well-known for her connection with the anime industry, lending her voice to the soundtrack of anime shows like Revolutionary Girl Utena, Tales of Eternia The Animation, Slayers, Sorcerer Hunters, Di Gi Charat, Magic User's Club, Jungle de Ikou!, Akihabara Dennou Gumi, Ray the Animation, He Is My Master, and Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters. Throughout the late 1990s and the early aughts, she reached the peak of her popularity with the albums V-sit (1996), Ma-KING (1997), Do-Can (1998), and NEEI (2000), all of which landed in the Top 20 of the Oricon Albums Chart. Simultaneously, she also founded the short-lived group r.o.r/s with Chihiro Yonekura and participated in Ichirou Mizuki's JAM Project. After releasing a handful of albums through her own evolution imprint during the mid to late 2000s, the singer signed with Lantis in 2011 and returned with her nineteenth album Love Axel a year later. The full-length Symbolic Bride ensued in 2015, followed by 2018's Happy End. In 2023, the label issued the compilation Mas“ami Okui”terpiece, a triple album that went to Number 84 on the Japanese Top 100.
