Nanase Aikawa

Born Misa Saeki on 16 February 1975 in the Higashiyodogawa-ku district of Osaka, the Japanese rock singer known professionally as Nanase Aikawa developed an interest in music and singing during her time at school, and took part in competitions that ultimately led to an audition with Sony Music aged 15. Although she failed to secure a contract, she did catch the attention of hit-making Japanese composer and producer Tetsurō Oda, who later guided her towards her first single, “Yume Miru Shoujo ja Irarenai,” released in 1995 when she was 20 years old. This marked the beginning of a fruitful career that would yield a number of best-selling albums, including her chart-topping debut LP Red (1996)—named Best Album (Japanese Rock and Folk music, female vocalist category)at the 11th Annual Japan Gold Disc Awards—the 1997 follow-up, Paradox—Best Album of the Year at the 12th Annual Japan Gold Disc Awards—and other releases like The Last Quarter and The First Quarter mini-albums, released in 2001 and 2005, respectively, Now or Never in 2016 and ROCK GOES ON in 2018. In 2023, Nanase Aikawa released the album Rock Monster, which went to number 51 in Japan.
