Rei Harakami

Japanese electronic music producer and record maker Rei Harakami was born December 10, 1970 in Kyoto. His initial plans to become a film composer were sidetracked when some of his electronic work earned him interest from a label. His debut album, Unrest, came out in 1998, and displayed Rei Harakami’s versatility as it featured both dance tracks and more atmospheric pieces. Opa*q followed in 1999, and Red Curb became his first album of the new century in 2001. In 2003 he formed the duo Yanokami with singer Akiko Yano. After his solo album Lust in 2005, Yanokami became the focus of his output. The twosome would release four albums between 2007 and 2011. Rei Harakami would pass away unexpectedly from a brain hemorrhage on July 27, 2011.
