Beyond the Wizards Sleeve

Bringing together groundbreaking indie acts with electro dancefloor grooves, Erol Alkan was the founding DJ of influential noughties London club night Trash. Teaming up with Richard Norris, who founded the psychedelic re-issue label Bam Caruso releasing some of the first acid house records, Alkan sought to mix 60s pop melodies with Balearic beats as production duo Beyond The Wizard's Sleeve. They started out by mixing records by The Monkees and The Hollies with obscure psychedelic tracks and drum & bass backdrops on their early EPs, and re-worked contemporary acts such as Simian Mobile Disco, Goldfrapp and The Chemical Brothers on compilation albums Ark 1 and Re-Animations. They debuted original material on vinyl release Black Noise/Door To Tomorrow before their first proper full-length album The Soft Bounce in 2016. Featuring contributions from Mystery Jets, Euros Childs and Holly Miranda, the album encapsulated their practice of warping obscure 60s and 70s samples with trance club beats.
