Ravi Basrur

Best known for his multiple contributions to the Kannada film industry, Indian film music composer, sound designer, and lyricist Ravi Basrur was born on January 1, 1984, in the coastal town of Kundapura. He grew up in extreme poverty and worked as a sculptor in Bangalore before moving to Mumbai to pursue a career in music. Prior to his debut as a musical director, he worked as a programmer in more than 62 films. In 2014, he rose to acclaim with the soundtrack of the 2014 Prashanth Neel-directed action thriller Ugramm, which won the Zee Music Award and the KIMA International Award for Best Background Score. That same year, Ravi Basrur wrote, produced, and directed the film Gargar Mandala. Some of his most celebrated soundtracks include Ekka Saka (2015), Just Maduveli (2015), Karvva (2016), and K.G.F: Chapter 1 (2018), a period action film that helped him win the Best Music Director category at the SIIMA Awards and Karnataka State Film Awards in 2019. A sequel titled K.G.F: Chapter 2 arrived in 2022 and featured the hit single "Monster Song," which entered the Malaysian Top 100 at Number 72. In addition to his film score work, Ravi Basrur's singing abilities have also been recognized with a SIIMA Award for Best Playback Singer in 2018.
